Description
What is PC (polycarbonate) filament?
PC stands for polycarbonate and this is a sturdy, hard and transparent material. The most important property of polycarbonate is the enormous impact resistance and durability. Polycarbonate is 250 times stronger than glass. It has a high glass transition temperature, making it suitable for use in applications with high temperatures.
Composition
Polycarbonate is a plastic that is softened by heating, but it requires very high temperatures before it melts and can be printed. Cracks occur quickly in the layers when printing at a too low temperature or in a too cool environment. Polycarbonate can best be printed with a 3D printer with a closed cabinet and a heated print bed.
Application
Polycarbonate is a strong material that can withstand high ambient temperatures, up to 150 ° C. In addition, the material can be bent without breaking. Polycarbonate is used for safety equipment for example and, because of its transparency, for greenhouses or the housing of lamps.
Tip: Always print PC in a closed cabinet with a heated print bed.
