Large-Format Filament Drying

The PrintDry Large Spool Kit (LSK) expands the capabilities of a compatible PrintDry Filament Dryer PRO, PRO3 or PRO4, allowing it to accommodate much larger filament spools than the standard configuration.

With the Large Spool Kit installed, compatible PrintDry dryers can dry and feed filament spools weighing up to 5kg with a maximum outside diameter of 300mm (12 inches). This makes the kit particularly useful for large-format 3D printing, production environments and users working with bulk filament.

Dry and Feed Large Spools

The Large Spool Kit allows a compatible PrintDry dryer to continue supporting the Dry & Feed function when using a large filament spool. Filament can be routed from the dryer directly to a compatible 3D printer while the spool remains inside the drying chamber.

This can help maintain a controlled environment around moisture-sensitive filament during longer printing jobs, rather than removing the large spool from the dryer once drying has finished.

Compatible PrintDry Filament Dryers

The Large Spool Kit is designed for use with the PrintDry Filament Dryer PRO, PRO3 and PRO4. It is an extension accessory and does not contain the dryer base or standard dryer components.

A compatible PrintDry dryer must therefore be purchased separately and is required for the Large Spool Kit to function.

Extension Kit Components

The Large Spool Kit includes a dedicated plastic tray and long metal shaft. These components replace the standard spool arrangement and provide the additional space and support required for large filament spools.

Large Spool Temperature Guidance

When drying and printing a new 12-inch filament spool, PrintDry recommends initially setting the dryer temperature 10°C lower than the normal recommended temperature for the filament.

After approximately 25% of the filament has been printed, the temperature can then be returned to the normal recommended setting. PrintDry states that this helps avoid overheating the filament.
