Advanced 3D printer filament dryer with real-time humidity monitoring, six temperature presets and direct feed-and-dry functionality for improved filament performance.
Moisture absorbed by filament can affect the consistency and quality of 3D printing. The PrintDry Filament Dryer PRO4 uses controlled heat and airflow to help remove moisture from filament before and during printing.
The integrated humidity monitor provides real-time feedback, allowing users to see the relative humidity inside the drying chamber as the drying cycle progresses. PrintDry states that chamber humidity can fall from above 60% to below 15% in under five minutes during its testing conditions.
The PRO4 provides six preset drying temperatures: 35°C, 45°C, 55°C, 65°C, 75°C and 85°C. This range allows the dryer to be used with a broad selection of common 3D printing materials.
PrintDry recommends different drying temperatures and times depending on the filament material. Actual drying times can vary according to the material, additives, initial moisture content and surrounding temperature and humidity.
The PRO4 is designed to both dry and feed filament. A filament can be routed directly from the dryer to a compatible 3D printer while the drying process continues.
The system supports both 1.75mm and 3mm filament and is suitable for use with 3D printers where the filament can be fed from outside the printer enclosure.
The PRO4 uses an upgraded larger PTC heating unit and a revised heating control algorithm. Its closed-loop temperature control switches the heating unit on and off according to the selected temperature.
PrintDry notes that temperature distribution inside the dryer is not uniform. Temperature readings are taken close to the hot air vent, so temperatures can differ between locations inside the chamber.
The PRO4 can be expanded with optional chamber accessories. An additional chamber kit can provide space for two more 1kg spools, allowing the system to serve multiple printers or dry additional filament at the same time.
PrintDry's drying recommendations are based on stated test conditions including 50% ambient relative humidity, 20°C ambient temperature and a 500g filament spool. Actual drying times vary according to filament composition, moisture content and environmental conditions.
The PrintDry filament dryer range has been independently tested by Intertek and TÜV to meet applicable product safety standards in North America and Europe. PrintDry states that the dryer range is ETL and TÜV Rheinland GS listed.
